President's Letter - August 2019

Dear Allen County Retired Educators,

Our first of four 2019-2020 annual meetings will be held on Thursday, August 29, 2019, at UMI Restaurant, 2912 Getz Rd. We will begin our meeting promptly at 11:00 am. Please arrive by 10:45 am to check-in and pay for your lunch.

RESERVATIONS: Please make your reservations with Mary Jo Purvis (see the AREA Directory for contact information) by Thursday, August 22nd. Your lunch will cost $15.00 payable when you arrive (cash or check only please). If you are a 2019 retired teacher or administrator (attending for the first time) your mean is FREE. Members who bring a nonmember retiree (attending for the first time) will get a TWO-FOR-ONE deal for lunch. Let Mary Jo know this when you make your reservation.

PROGRAM: Dorothy Kittaka is a retired SACS music teacher. She has enriched our city by being involved with Fame and Ft. Wayne's Sister City program to name a few. At the start of WWII, her family was taken from their home in Washington state to an internment camp in California. She will share some of the experiences that have shaped the person she has become. You will want to hear Dorothy's story.

The Necrology Ceremony will be at the end of the meeting.

DUES: This August meeting is the beginning of the 2019-2020 AREA year so it is time to pay your AREA dues of $15.00. Please pay at this meeting or contact Pam George (see the AREA Directory for contact information). She also has IRTA (Indiana Retired Teachers' Association) information. You might consider automatic dues deduction from your TRF pension to join IRTA. Support is greatly needed to impact state retirement benefits and education change.

EYEGLASSES: Bring your unused eyeglasses to any meeting and they will be forwarded to the Lions Club.
